Online Registration in Action: The Survey.
Online
surveys are already widely used by companies in almost every
industry. They are used for the same reasons any other type
of survey is used: market research, membership surveys, follow-ups
etc. For example, some publishing companies send out surveys
to businesses so that they can gather information on them and then
publish specialized business directories or lists covering specific
industries.
As with online registration, a benefit of using an online survey
is that it eliminates much of the manual work involved. All
of the collected information is stored in a database where it is
ready to be summarized with totals and percentages and can be sorted
and organized in numerous ways. It can be targeted to a specific
audience if you have an email contact list from doing online registration,
and response rates are more likely to be higher because they are
easier and more convenient to complete.
Online surveys can be simple or complex. They can allow for
multiple choice questions or just yes/no answers. They can
provide drop down menus of options to choose from, check boxes,
radio buttons, etc. They can also accommodate comment boxes
for more open ended questions, or mutually exclusive responses,
e.g. where choosing one option precludes you from being able to
choose another option at the same time. More sophisticated
surveys may also employ logic where, for example, your answer to
one question may determine what choices you get in a subsequent
question.
For an example of the types of questions and response-types one
might see on an online survey, check out our
