Online Registration in
Action: 360 Degree Feedback.

In an attempt to improve productivity and provide better feedback, many
companies are now using something called �360 degree feedback.� There are many
variations of it but the main idea is the same.

Instead of an employee or group member receiving one evaluation from their
supervisor, the 360 degree approach looks at all the people who interact with
the employee including co-workers, customers, vendor, supervisors, etc. 
The idea is that you can get a better and fairer overall picture of the
strengths and weaknesses of the employee by asking a broad group of individuals
for their feedback and assessment.

In most cases, the employee and his/her supervisor will work together to select
a group from the employee�s 360 degrees of contact.  The employee will
then ask the members of the group to fill out an evaluation questionnaire which
is returned to the supervisor.  The supervisor removes the names from the
evaluations to encourage more candid evaluations, summarizes the information,
highlights areas of strength and areas that need to be developed and then goes
over this summary report with the employee.

Some online registration vendors have now tapped into this market and are
allowing companies to do 360 degree feedback over the internet. The online
registration vendors make the 360 degree feedback evaluation forms available
online. The individuals who make up the 360 degree group can then access the
form from anywhere at anytime and submit their evaluations online. The
information is then stored in an online database and supervisors can access and
summarize the information and create reports.

There is no waiting for the forms
to arrive in the mail, or having to sort through email attachments and it is
much more convenient for the evaluators who may be located over a wide
geographical area.
