Remember the last time you bought shoes or had the oil changed in your car? Were you asked to buy some protective spray for your shoes or to get the window washer fluid in your car topped up?
Many merchants generate additional revenue by simply presenting customers with additional buying opportunities related to their initial purchase.
Sales and marketing books have different names and descriptions for the process of selling related items to customers, but the principle is usually the same. It requires much more effort to demonstrate the value of your offer and earn the buyers trust on an initial sale than it does on a second or related one.
For events, someone registering is really you making a sale. If you have people registering, you have done the hard part of showing value, building trust and getting people to invest time and money in your event. So, just like more conventional retailers asking you to buy a related item, you can give your event participants an opportunity to buy a related item on your online form and generate additional revenue for your event.
When selecting related items to sell on the online registration form, keep these points in mind:
Having a photo of the item will definitely help sales (if applicable), but also include a detailed description of the item and a refund and exchange policy.
Keep in mind that you don’t want to clutter your online form with too many options, but here are some items that you may want to consider selling on your online form.
